Hamilton, NJ
HTRSA and Hamilton Soccer Club (HSC) recently concluded their first joint summer camp with the Philadelphia Union. The camp ran from August 5th-8th at the HTRSA soccer complex. The camp hosted players from Hamilton and the surrounding area.
The summer camp is one of the new offering that HTRSA has access to since becoming a Philadelphia Union affiliated club. The camp ran for 4 days and was conducted by Union trainers and staff. Each player received a Union camp shirt to wear to camp.
“All of our camp trainers are at least a C level coach with most be a B level” said Lisa Cotter, Union camp coordinator. The level of that Lisa spoke to is the US Soccer Coaching levels. The minimum level of coaching certification that is required to be a travel coach is the grassroots or Y coaching license. In order to become a C level coach, coaches must complete each grassroots level course (8 hours) plus the D level course (55 hours) and then the C level course (85 hours). The B level course is includes another 120 hours of classroom and field work.
Brian Addis, HTRSA President added, “Access to this level of expertise is not easy to come by. Our travel coaches are all licensed, but none of them have completed the C level course. Getting more advanced licensing is something that we are looking to do in the coming year.”
The kids all came out ready to play. The camp is co-ed and open players from anywhere. HTRSA has a goal to continue to host a Union camp and to expand it in the coming years. Next year, we are hoping to have a full-day offering (6 hours) and an advanced camp for players who play at a higher level.
Our hope is that we can continue to expand programming to HTRSA, HSC, and the surrounding communities. Keep an eye out for more offering from HTRSA and the Union
